Xplornet will move aggressively to build Canada's first national fourth-generation broadband network. Xplornet will create a robust 4G broadband network covering all of rural Canada by combining a new 4G WiMAX network of roughly 1200 towers with a new satellite network using two new 4G satellites.

Viasat-1, North America's first 4G broadband satellite was launched on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan; a second similar 4G satellite is scheduled to launch in 2012. This network will provide all Canadians with the opportunity to receive fast and affordable broadband connections.
