Werklund School of Education Inaugural Scholarship Awards

Six Undergraduate students at the Werklund School of Education were awarded the inaugural Werklund Community Engaged Scholarship of $20,000 each for their commitment and passion for teaching, strong work ethic, and a sense of responsibility to their communities. Additionally, The Werklund Doctoral Fellowship Scholarship was awarded to an exceptional new scholar working in the Werklund School of Education to consolidate their research training, to develop and initiate original research, and to participate in Werklund School of Education strategic academic initiatives and activities. The Werklund School of Education Postdoctoral Scholarship was awarded to a student for their research about immigrant youth and their experiences as they integrate into Canadian society.

  

David Werklund Invests $25 Million in the new Werklund School of Education

On November 1, 2013, the University of Calgary announced that David Werklund made a $25 million donation to name the Werklund School of Education.  The donation — the largest single gift to an education faculty in Canadian history—will support new scholarships and research opportunities, better technology and additional resources to improve the way the we teach and learn.

  

David Werklund named to the Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta Economic Futures Council

In September 2014, Mr. Werklund became a Founding Member of the Economic Futures Council to help position young people for future success.

  

2013 Calgary Business Hall of Fame Inductee

The Calgary Business Hall of Fame recognizes the lifetime achievements of southern Alberta’s most distinguished citizens. Its inductees have helped shape our province through their business success, entrepreneurial spirit and philanthropic contributions. David Werklund, along with three other prominent businessmen (Clive Beddoe, Bob Brawn, and Jack Gallagher) was inducted into the Calgary Business Hall of Fame on October 23, 2013.

  

2013 Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame Inductee

On September 26, 2013, David Werklund was inducted into the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame - a Society created in 1997 to honour the words, deeds and accomplishments of men and women who are characterized as founders, builders and leaders of Canada's petroleum sector.  David joined past distinguished honourees, such as J.C. Anderson, Doc Seaman, Charlie Fischer, Ron Southern and Rick George to name a few.
