Dave Werklund began his industrious career in 1965 at Shell Canada as a Production Operator. From this modest beginning, his rise in the oilfield industry has progressed to this day as he relishes challenges, and is driven to create organizations that reflect his own principles. Through his wealth of experience and expertise, he has become a trusted industry partner and one of Canada's most compelling leaders.
Throughout his career, Mr. Werklund has built organizations with the principle of "empowering our people", and where integrity, respect and teamwork were at the core of every action. However, Mr. Werklund is much more than the co-Founder of Concord Well Servicing, Founder of CCS Corporation, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of CCS Corporation. He is the entrepreneurial spirit and passion behind these organizations and the newly christened Werklund Family Office where he is currently the Founder & Executive Chairman.
Mr. Werklund's sound business sense, extensive industry experience, and commitment to his employees have been the key to his various organizations' long-term growth and sustainability. And his success speaks for itself: from a one-rig operation in 1979, Concord Well Servicing is now the third largest well service company in Canada; similarly, an initial investment of $50,000 in 1984 in a small oilfield service company in northern Alberta grew into CCS Corporation and, by 2007, had been built into a $3.7 billion multi faceted corporation, internationally recognized and trusted as an industry leader providing integrated and environmentally responsible services to upstream and downstream oil and gas companies across North America and around the world.
Upon handing over the CCS reins in July 2010 to new President & Chief Executive Officer, John Gibson, Mr. Werklund has continued his entrepreneurial endeavours as Founder & Executive Chairman of Werklund Capital, one of Canada's largest family-owned investment companies, and Founder & Chairman of Werklund Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Werklund Family Office dedicated to his lifelong commitment to excellence in leadership training and preparing today's youth to become tomorrow's leaders.
Among his many accolades, Mr. Werklund was awarded Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year in 2005, and Industry Legend as Inspiration in 2007. He has also been featured in numerous publications including the Globe & Mail, the Financial Post, the Calgary Herald, Calgary Inc., and Alberta Venture where he was listed as one of Alberta's 50 most influential people.
Mr. Werklund's lifelong success is attributed to his commitment to great leadership principles, his enthusiasm for life long learning, and his dedication to strong values, steadfast ethics, and excellence.
A visionary leader with an entrepreneurial spirit, Deanna Werklund is Executive Director of the Werklund Capital Corporation and President of the Werklund Foundation.
Joining her father in 2006, Deanna helped to strategically develop Werklund Capital and has been instrumental in growing the corporation into one of Canada's largest family-owned investment companies. Drawing on 15 years in the Oil & Gas Engineering sector excelling in financial management, Deanna plays a critical role in leading a team of highly experienced and focused professionals within this fast-growing and strategic advisory firm.
Seeking a better structure to manage the organization’s wealth, Deanna understood the power of the family office model, a professional entity designed to manage the investments, business affairs and philanthropic interests of high net-worth individuals and families. In 2011, after she studied a number of world-class examples, the Werklund Family Office was created to encompass both the wealth management entity of Werklund Capital and Werklund Foundation.
As Deanna worked to manage the wealth of Werklund Capital through strategic investments, she never lost sight of the most important investment – giving back in our communities. Drawing on her experience as a successful businesswoman and her passion for helping others, Deanna helped found Werklund Foundation in 2006 in partnership with her father.
Like Werklund Capital, Deanna envisioned the foundation as highly entrepreneurial in nature, investing in and growing initiatives with the capacity to yield the highest returns on the most important assets: our youth. Deanna’s bold vision for excellence in leadership education has led to the Werklund Foundation’s support of youth leadership initiatives in Alberta. Through multiple partnerships and collaborations within Calgary, including the Telus Science Centre, and the Werklund Foundation’s Centre for Youth Leadership Education at the University of Calgary, the mission of the Werklund Foundation is to make a difference in the lives of youth by supporting educational opportunities that will assist them in achieving their highest potential.
In 2006, Deanna Werklund participated in an impactful executive experiential leadership program, and left wondering how this experience might have changed her life if she had had a chance to go through it as a teen. Deanna quickly formed a vision of providing all Alberta teens with this training to empower them with the skills necessary to excel in life. She led the development of the Werklund Foundation’s Empowering Minds teen leadership programs, researching and proving their success thoroughly before forming several formal school board alliances in Alberta and integrating the programs into several schools.
Through Deanna’s vision and passion, the Empowering Minds programs and partnerships encourage youth to realize their highest potential, empowering students with the confidence, resilience and motivation necessary to succeed. Since 2007, the Foundation has provided leadership training and empowerment for over 2,500 youth and the program continues to grow exponentially.
Among many accomplishments, Deanna is a graduate of the Institute for Corporate Directors, a Master Graduate of Rapport Leadership International, and a graduate of the highly distinguished Judy Project, an initiative led by the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.
A mother of two, Deanna and her husband enjoy spending time at their cabin on the Shuswap.
Mark Werklund’s passion is soundly rooted in the arts, as art is about having the courage to outwardly express an idea. Mark is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of children and youth in our communities by fostering both creativity and self-awareness.
